In a recent Voice-Tribune article about the program, Chief Marketing Officer Meg Gatti explains the alignment of Northwestern Mutual and the Encore Louisville Program, “A number of our clients are executives or retired business owners, and they like to know that there’s a program where they can take their professional skill set, their professional experience, and be able to apply that in retirement for a sense of purpose, a sense of fulfillment, as well as to give back to the community. It's a perfect fit.”

Northwestern Mutual Celebrates at Rupp Arena

Our financial representatives and clients, 180 strong, enjoyed an afternoon at Rupp Arena, home of the University of Kentucky Wildcats.  Guests had the chance to shoot baskets on the court, visit the refurbished locker room and visit with Coach John Calipari.  Over lunch, Coach Calipari discussed the progress of the current team, the project to refurbish the locker room and the partnership with Northwestern Mutual that helped make it happen.  Northwestern Mutual purchased the court from New Orleans on which the Wildcats won the men’s NCAA® basketball championship in 2012.  Northwestern Mutual donated sections of the floor to UK that now serve as the floor of the locker room in Rupp Arena.  Other sections of the floor were then converted into souvenir pieces, signed by Coach Calipari, and sold to the public to raise money to support pediatric cancer research and care at Kentucky Children’s Hospital and Kosair Children’s Hospital.  Coach Calipari also used souvenir pieces to raise funds for the charities supported by his foundation.

Tis’ the season for giving and that was exactly what Northwestern Mutual was able to do with the help of Make-a-Wish Foundation, Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville basketball team.

Zek Sullivan was just three years old when his family discovered the news of his lemon- sized brain tumor. Now, one surgery and 33 rounds of radiation later, Zek, a happy and energetic four-year-old, was given the opportunity to be a ball boy at the University of Louisville vs. Florida International University basketball game on Friday, December 5th. Northwestern Mutual financial representatives, Matt Moore and Cody Matthews hosted Zek, along with his twin brother, Alex, for dinner at the Cardinal Hall of Fame Café. Moore and Matthews then took the two boys along with their family members, by limo, to the Yum! Center where Zek and Alex were ‘official’ ball boys at the UofL vs. Florida International University basketball game. Both boys were able to be escorted onto the court by UofL Coach Rick Pitino and have their photo taken with the coach and a piece of the 2013 UofL championship floor that was presented to them.

“Northwestern Mutual’s ultimate goal in joining the fight against pediatric cancer is to help find a cure, we place a great deal of emphasis on supporting the ongoing treatment of these courageous kids and the families that love and comfort them,” said Chris Brice, Chief Marketing Officer of Northwestern Mutual. “I wish to thank Cardinal Athletics, Coach Rick Pitino and Kosair Children’s Hospital for helping us bring some joy and levity to a family that so deserves it.”
